Follow our step-by-step guide to installing a shower fitting and learn more about how to proceed.
Complete the installation of the mixer tap yourself
Today, the bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the home, and the vast majority of us appreciate spending time in a bathroom that is delicious and inviting.
If it is time for a renovation or a renewal of the bathroom, then everything from a brand new shower set , a shower head or a new shower fitting can lift the whole expression of the bathroom.
If you are faced with having to replace the shower fixture with a new and more modern shower mixer – perhaps even one that is more energy efficient – then there is a very good reason to throw yourself into the installation task. Then you save the cost by hiring a plumbing installer.
Before you start the plumbing work yourself, however, it is a good idea to be aware of the rules for what you can do in the bathroom yourself. There are special requirements for which tasks must be carried out by professional plumbing installers.
Fortunately, replacing the shower faucet is one of the relatively simple tasks that you can easily do yourself. Make sure that you follow the norms and standards that exist in the area – then you are sure that you install your new mixer tap in accordance with the applicable regulations.
We have put together a simple guide on how to change the mixer battery.
1. Turn off the water
The first step when you want to fit a new shower fitting is to shut off the water. It may seem obvious, but nevertheless it is an absolutely essential step that is important to remember in order to avoid water damage.
Shut off the water at the main valve or shut off the shut-off valves, which are usually located under the sink. Please note that you may only change the shower mixer yourself if there is a shut-off valve on the water supply. If it is not possible to shut off the water, have a plumber help you replace the shut-off valve instead.
2. Remove the old shower fitting
Remove the old shower fitting by loosening the two flanges with a spanner. Once you have loosened them, you can slowly unscrew them.
3. Check the distance between the screws
The fittings are usually attached to the water pipes and led out through the wall, which means that the distance between the fittings cannot normally be changed. However, it is still important to check whether the distance fits the new shower fitting.
4. Assemble the new shower fitting
Assemble your new shower fitting by fitting the loops on the mixer tap with fiber gaskets and possibly small water filters. In this way, you get the right tightness between the flanges and the screw connections. You are then ready to install your new fixture.
5. Install the new shower fitting
When you have to install the shower fitting, you do it by feeding the flanges to the screw connections and tightening them with a spanner. Make sure all connections are tight and secure.
After this, the shower fitting is installed correctly, and you can try to turn on the water.
Tip: It may be a good idea to place a cloth or something else between the circlips and the tool you are using – this way you avoid scratching the surface of the shower fitting.
