Today, the design of the bathroom is at least as important as the floor plan itself, the choice of bathroom tiles , shower sets and sink fittings . With the interior design of the bathroom, everything follows bathroom accessories, such as. bathroom lamps, bathroom furniture, hand wash and of course mirrors.
Mirrors plays an important role in creating a sense of spaciousness and openness in a bathroom. By reflecting the light, mirrors can make even the smallest bathroom seem larger and more airy, which creates a more pleasant atmosphere in the room. Furthermore, mirrors also have a practical function – apart from adding to the aesthetics of the bathroom.
A well-placed mirror gives you the opportunity to more easily carry out daily routines, such as shaving, applying make-up and washing your hands, as it provides a clear and distinct reflection.

How to mount a mirror?
A very simple question that understandably arises when the new mirror is found is how to mount the mirror in your bathroom. Installing a mirror in the bathroom may seem like a challenging task, but with the right steps, it’s actually a relatively simple process.
Read along below, where we have created a simple step-by-step guide for mounting the mirror.
Procedure – how to mount your mirror
When you want to mount a mirror, there are three ways you can do it:
- With glue
- With hidden mirror brackets
- With mirror holders
Mounting with glue
You will need this:
- Mirror with polished edge
- Cardboard or other material that can protect the mirror from scratches
- Mirror glue and grout gun
- A pencil
- Ruler
- Possibly. joint glue
- Possibly. a suction cup if it is a large mirror
Step-by-step guide:
- Place the mirror on some cardboard, a towel or something else that protects the mirror from getting scratched.
- Apply the glue in vertical stripes to the back of the mirror.
- If you are going to install a large mirror, it is a good idea to stick some tape or something else in the corners – then you are sure that the mirror will stay where it needs to be during installation. Then you fasten the mirror to the wall.
- Let the glue dry and harden – preferably for a day.
- If there is air between the edges of the mirror and the other material the mirror hangs on – this can e.g. be tiles, you can choose to grout all the way around the edge of the mirror. Pay attention to grouting only when the glue is dry.
Installation with hidden brackets
You will need this:
- Mirror with polished edge
- Cardboard or other material that can protect the mirror from scratches
- Concealed brackets (one package typically contains three metal plates, three eccentric sliders (adjustable +/- 4 mm), two push buttons, two spacers, two magnets, four screws and four rawplugs)
- A pencil
- Ruler
- Drill
- Possibly. a suction cup if it is a large mirror
Step-by-step guide:
- Place the mirror on some cardboard, a towel or something else that protects the mirror from getting scratched.
- Measure and mark the location on the back of the mirror where you want the magnetic brackets to sit. How to do it: Place the three metal plates that will support the mirror at the top – two on the sides and one in the middle. The two metal plates in the sides should be located 10 cm from the top of the mirror and 8 cm from the side. The last metal plate must be placed in the middle. The two mirror brackets for the magnets at the bottom of the mirror should be placed in the lower corners of the mirror, 1.5 cm from the bottom and 9.5 cm from the side.
- Position the metal plates: Remove the tape from the metal plates and attach them to the mirror based on your markings. Give them a tap, put an item on mine. 15 kg on top of each of the metal sheets and let the glue dry for an hour.
- Then place the brackets for the magnets using the same procedure .
- Now measure up so that you can drill three holes at the top and two holes at the bottom in the wall. Remember rawplugs.
- Screw the three white eccentric sliders at the top and screw the two mirror brackets at the bottom.
- Now you can mount the mirror. Get any someone to help you carry the mirror if it is heavy. First place the upper part of the mirror so that the metal plates hang on the eccentric sliders – then click the lower part of the mirror to the magnets.
Installation with mirror holders
You will need this:
- Mirror with polished edge
- Mirror holders
- A pencil
- Ruler
- Drill
- Possibly. a suction cup if it is a large mirror
Step-by-step guide:
- Measure on the wall and mark the position of the mirror holders so that they fit the size of your mirror.
- Mount mirror brackets or mirror holders on the wall.
- You can then mount the mirror in the mirror holders.
You must consider this before installing your mirror
There are some things worth considering before you hang up your new bathroom mirror. It is e.g. it’s a good idea to have an idea of exactly where you want the mirror to hang – and how high – before you attach it to the wall. That way, you are sure that the mirror serves its purpose and looks good in the bathroom.
We have collected some of the most important considerations and most frequently asked questions about fitting mirrors that you should consider before hanging your new mirror.
How high should a mirror hang above the sink?
A good rule of thumb when fitting your new bathroom mirror is that the center of the mirror should be at eye level of the shortest adult in the household. The most important thing here is that you can see your whole face in the mirror – therefore it may be a good idea to double check the height of the mirror if there is a large height difference between the adults in your home.
Installation of mirror with light
Should you install a mirror with light in the bathroom? Then it is important that you check that there is an electrical installation nearby and that the installation is legal before you mount the mirror on the wall.
How do you get a glued mirror down?
If you have a mirror in the bathroom that is glued to the wall, you must first of all get hold of the right “tool” to be able to loosen the glue properly.
One tip is to twist some pieces of steel wire together into a wire, which you can pass around the back of the mirror and carefully use to loosen the glue. Here it is a good idea to have two for the task, so that there is another person who can hold the mirror in the meantime.
If there is some glue left that hasn’t been loosened with the wire, you can try a heat gun or a scraper.
How big does a mirror have to be so that you can see yourself in full?
To be able to see yourself in full form in a mirror, the mirror must be large enough to reflect your entire body. The exact size depends on your height and personal preference, but in general it is recommended that the mirror be at least half your height.
Tips for hanging mirrors
We have collected some good tips that you can use when you need to hang mirrors in your bathroom:
- Use a level – then you are sure that the mirror hangs straight.
- Hang the mirror at eye level so that it does not make you look either higher or lower than you are.
- Hang the mirror in front of an open room with natural light so it is easy to see your reflection in the mirror.
Remember that it is always a good idea to use two people to hang a large or heavy mirror – this minimizes the risk of someone getting hurt or your mirror getting scratched.
